Suburban train services resumed in West Bengal on November 11 after more than seven months. Railway authorities maintaining a strict vigil and passengers largely adhering to the COVID-19 protocol.
The local train services under the jurisdiction of the Eastern and the South Eastern Railways resumed early in the morning, 11 November.
The Eastern Railway is operating 413 suburban trains in Sealdah division and 202 in Howrah division from 11 November.
To avoid overcrowding of trains, 148 of 177 time- tabled services are being run during peak hours.
South Eastern Railway is running 81 daily services from November 11, with 40 EMU locals in the up direction and 41 in the down direction.
November 05: 181 pair local trains to run daily from 11 November during office hours in Kolkata. 114 pair trains will run in Sealdah route, 50 pair trains will run in Howrah route and remaining 17 pairs will run in Kharagpur route. Trains will run as per existing time table.
November 03: Meeting between State Government and Rail Board is successful. Local trains will resume running very soon. Initially 15 - 20 % trains will operate with 50% of it's passenger capacity. Gradually number of trains will be increased.
Date, time and number of trains are not yet finalised. On November 05, again State Government and Railway Board will meet to settle the matters like from which date the local trains will start running along with total number of trains, time and route and how many passengers will be allowed to board on trains..
November 02: Today State, Govt and Railways will discuss restarting local trains.
October 31: Finally State Government has sent letter to Indian Railways for a primary discussion over the modalities of running the local trains. It is learnt that suburban local trains may run in the morning and day time.
October 30: Till today nobody knows when the suburban local trains will resume operating.
